Choir Members - Coisir Sgire Phort Righ
Còisir Sgìre Phort Rìgh or Portree District Gaelic Choir have been competing in National Mods since the 1930s and have been successful 13 times in the Lorne Shield and other competitions. They now compete in the Margrat Duncan Memorial Trophy under the direction of the Musical Director Karen MacRae and Gaelic Tutor Maryann MacKenzie. The choir meet every Tuesday in the Skye Bible Church in Portree and members come mainly from the north end of Skye. There is a very healthy membership in the choir who enjoy the relaxed and informal atmosphere at practice and look forward to competing with other choirs at the Mod. The choir hold Ceilidhs in Portree and in village halls throughout the area. About half of the members of the choir have made Skye their home and are committed to Gaelic language and culture.
