Choir Members - Coisir Ghaidhlig Ile Gaelic Choir

Rehearsals

  • We meet most Thursday evenings in the Islay High School Assembly Hall at 7pm. Practices last around 2 hrs. No knowledge of music or gaelic is necessary as we will provide help with both. Our choir practices have a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and occasionally include tea and cakes!

Other information

  • Còisir Ghàidhlig Ìle (Islay Gaelic Choir) has been expanding in recent years and have successfully attracted a number of younger singers. The choir proudly use “Islay Gaelic” and, where possible, sing songs from Islay or Islay Bards. Members are drawn from all parts of the Island and we welcome all comers – regardless of music and Gaelic abilities. The choir regularly perform at community events throughout the Island. In 2018 the choir proudly took part in the WW100 commemoration in front of HRH Princess Anne and other UK and USA dignitaries.

Our conductor is Arlene McKerrell who also conducts the very successful Còisir Òg Ghàidhlig Ìle. In 2018 Lynn Mitchell took up the baton as assistant conductor and our gaelic reader is Libby Morris.
