Choir Members - Bùrach Gaelic Choir
A small band of enthusiasts met in Lochaline Hotel in March 2012 to discuss the possibilities of forming a Gaelic choir in Morvern. Native of Morvern, Riona Whyte (Conductor) and her son Alasdair Whyte (Gaelic tutor) were asked (or persuaded) to lead this merry band and Bùrach was born! It is very much a family affair with Riona’s brother, sister and daughter all singing in the choir too. The choir had their debut performance at the Barra Provincial Mòd in 2012. Choir members enjoyed the experience so much that they decided to compete at Provincial Mòds in Ardnamurchan, Mull and Barra in 2013 before heading for the National.
The formation of the choir has led to a renewed interest in the language, culture and music and we hope to offer Gaelic classes to members in the near future.
Riona also attends the Primary school in Lochaline to tutor children for local Mòds and hopefully these pupils will graduate to the Senior choir through time.
