Choir Members - Lochs Gaelic Choir

Lochs Choir was first started by Mrs Catherine Macdonald, initially as a female voice choir and then competed as a mixed voice choir for the first time in at the 1957 Royal National Mod in Inverness. That year, they successfully won the Lorn Shield, the premier competition for Rural Choirs. They also won the competition in 1958.

Ronald Murray (Mod Gold Medallist, 1988) first conducted the Choir at Inverness Mod in 1997 and in that year the Choir won the Lorn Shield.

The Choir also won the Lorn Shield in Fort William in 2007, in their 50th anniversary year. It was a successful year, as the Choir won 12 of the 13 available prizes for Rural choirs.

Rehearsals

  • The Choir meets on a Monday evening, alternating practices between Stornoway and Leurbost in Lochs.

  • It is not necessary to be able to speak Gaidhlig or read music, as words and music will be provided as sound files.
