Choir Members - Coisir Sgire Phort Righ

Còisir Sgìre Phort Rìgh or the Portree and District Gaelic Choir as it is known in English has been competing in National Mòds since the 1930’s and has had considerable success particularly in the Lorne Shield event winning it 13 times with additional success in the Puirt competitions. It also boasted a Gold Medalist in Arthur Cormack in 1983. Since choir numbers have reduced recently the choir are now competing in the Margrat Duncan Trophy and they really enjoy the competition and friendship revisited at each Royal National Mòd.
The choir is currently under the direction of Karen MacRae and the Gaelic Tutor is Mary Rankine. This is a very friendly choir and consists of a good mixture of local native Gaels and people who have decided to spend the rest of their lives in this beautiful island. All newcomers are made very welcome and knowledge of Gaelic is not a pre-requisite as Gaelic tuition is available on the night and with very useful CDs.
